Augusta Technical College is excited to announce that Ms. Tawanna Harden has been named the 2021-2022 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) Winner for Augusta Technical College.

The announcement of Ms. Harden as the winner was made after the local competition in the Information Technology Center on the Augusta Campus.

The college had four students who competed to become the local EAGLE Delegate. The nominees were:

  • Lenna Green – Nominated by Mrs. Devlynn Taylor
  • Tawanna Harden – Nominated by Ms. Danielle Redus
  • Neicey Langston – Nominated by Ms. Julianne Belangia (1st runner up)
  • Aaliyah Williams – Nominated by Ms. Penny Kearney

Ms. Harden is a single mom and is a mentor in her community. Tawanna decided to take the steps to attain her dream of earning her GED so she could be a role model for her two children. Her long term plan is to enroll into the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Augusta Technical College.

"I am so proud to have been chosen as Augusta Technical College's EAGLE winner ” stated Harden. “This process has allowed me to challenge myself and step outside of my comfort zone. I decided to participate in this competition to show my kids that they can do anything they put their mind to if they just believe in themselves. This experience has allowed me to grow, and receiving my GED through the Adult Education program is only the beginning!"

EAGLE is the first statewide program in the nation that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This student recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.

"We are excited to have Ms. Harden as the Augusta Technical College FY22 EAGLE Winner," stated Angela Moseley, Dean of Adult Education. "Her story is inspiring, and we know that she will represent the college and her fellow students well in the upcoming competition."

The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG,) through its Office of Adult Education (OAE), sponsors the annual EAGLE Leadership Institute. Ms. Harden will represent Augusta Technical College at the Institute on March 14-16, 2021. The Leadership Institute recognizes and honors those students who have demonstrated superior achievement in adult education classes and programs.

The state winner will carry the title of Technical College System of Georgia EAGLE Winner and will serve as the state’s ambassador for adult education. The winner exemplifies excellence and a commitment to the mission of the Technical College System of Georgia’s Office of Adult Education and makes many public appearances throughout the year, including the TCSG Leadership Conference and the TCSG Board Meeting, to name a few. The state winner will also receive a full two-year scholarship to the technical college of his or her choice.
