Augusta Technical College Announces Appointment of New
Chair and Vice Chair for College Board of Directors 

Both positions will take effect on July 1, 2021.

Augusta, GA, July 1, 2021

Augusta Technical College is excited to announce the appointment of the new Chair and Vice Chair for the College Board of Directors, Dr. Howie Gunby and Ms. Patricia Goodwin, respectively.

Dr. Gunby graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1989. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Morris Brown College in 1994, his Masters of Education from Troy State University in 2003, and his Doctorate of Education from the University of Georgia in 2012.

He worked for Augusta Technical College for 14 years (1995-2009) as a bookkeeper, adult literacy instructor, and Executive Director of Adult Education. He was the assistant principal at Lincoln County Middle School from 2009-2011, and the principal for Lincoln County High School from 2011-2020. In July 2020, he became the Associate Superintendent for Federal Programs and Special Education for Lincoln County Schools.

He has served as Chairman for the Lincoln County Health Department and Lincoln County Election Board. He is a Deacon and Finance Chairman of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Lincolnton, GA.

Dr. Gunby is married to Lashonda Gunby and has 4 children: Amanda, Denzel, Maciah, Lazarius, and one granddaughter, Maisyn.

Ms. Goodwin was an assistant to the Broker at Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, assisting over 100+ agents, and is now an active licensed realtor at Blanchard and Calhoun Real Estate Company. She has served and led numerous nonprofit boards/committees and has been active in supporting both regional and state efforts to help make our area a great place to live, work and play.

Ms. Goodwin resides in Columbia County and has a degree in Business Administration from Mercer University.

Her career has spanned over 29 years working at Southern Company Services and 13 years at the Medical College of Georgia. She has served as Chair of the Ronald McDonald of Augusta, Leadership Augusta and Columbia County, Development Authority of Columbia County, chair of the Columbia County Convention and Visitors Bureau and is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Columbia County Chamber and is also an active member of the chamber Government Affairs Committee. She received the chamber Volunteer of the Year Award (2008) and Leadership Award (2012).

"This is an exciting time for the institution, and we have two stellar leaders selected by their peers to lead us over the next fiscal year," stated College President Dr. Jermaine Whirl. "I'm excited to work with Dr. Gunby, Ms. Goodwin, and all of our board of directors to move the institution forward. Their leadership in concert with our foundation board and chairman, Mr. Randy Hatcher, will allow us to continue to transform lives, organizations, and communities through excellence, innovation, and partnerships."
