Augusta Technical College Instructor Tara Jenkins named as the
2023 TCSG Outstanding Adult Education Teacher of the Year

The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) has named Ms. Tara Jenkins from Augusta Technical College as the 2023 Outstanding Adult Education Teacher of the Year (TOTY).

TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier and TCSG Assistant Commissioner for Adult Education Dr. Cayanna Good presented the award during the annual Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE Institute at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead on March 2.

"I am honored to receive the 2023 Outstanding Teacher of the Year award for adult education," stated Ms. Jenkins. "This award is a reflection of the investment our students make in their future. I am proud to be a part of the dream for a better quality of life through employability, a pathway towards post secondary opportunities, and becoming the trailblazer in their family by completing a long term goal. I am grateful to the Technical College System of Georgia for recognizing my part in the process, but I could not do this without the support of my Augusta Tech family."

The Adult Education OTOY program is designed to recognize and honor our most outstanding Adult Education teachers who make significant contributions to the field through instruction, innovation, and leadership. These outstanding teachers\ participate in school and community activities, they understand the importance of and are committed to the Adult Education profession, and they exemplify excellence. The OTOY has a deep commitment to the mission of the Office of Adult Education (OAE).

"We are extremely proud of Ms. Jenkin's accomplishments and know she’ll be an outstanding advocate for adult education throughout the state this coming year," stated College President Dr. Jermaine Whirl. "Moreover, tonight was history making as our institution now has three statewide winners. This is a true testament to the quality of faculty we have in our adult education program. Thanks to the leadership of Dean Angela Moseley, the entire faculty, and staff for their continued dedication to excellence. Go Cougars!"

The OAE OTOY Award Winner serves as a professional-level ambassador for Adult Education in Georgia as the TCSG OAE’s Outstanding Teacher of the Year. S/he makes many public appearances (virtual or in-person) throughout the year, including presenting before the TCSG State Board, college presidents, city/state officials, the General Assembly of the State of Georgia and other speaking engagement opportunities in order to promote Adult Education.

In addition to carrying the distinguished title, Ms. Jenkins received a cash award of $2,500. The OAE will also award $2,500 to the Augusta Technical College Adult Education program in support of curricula (e.g., books, materials, etc.) acquisition.
