Thomas Hippchen appointed as Associate Dean of Augusta 
Technical College's School of Arts and Sciences


Augusta, GA - July 25, 2024

Mr. Thomas Hippchen, a Caucasian male, smiles at the camera wearing a tan suit with a blue collared shirt and a tan and brown striped tie.Augusta Technical College has appointed Mr. Thomas Hippchen as the Associate Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.

Mr. Hippchen has been with Augusta Tech for the past year as a mathematics instructor and has spent 17 years as an educator in the State of Georgia. His prior institutions include Chattahoochee Tech, Kennesaw State University, Coastal Pines Tech, and College of Coastal Georgia. In addition to serving as a math instructor, Mr. Hippchen gained experience as a QEP co-director at Coastal Pines Technical College. He has stepped into other roles, such as a faculty mentor for new hires, a member of appeals committees, faculty senate, library advisement, college merger steering committees, and more.

Mr. Hippchen holds an Associate of Science in Mathematics from Macon State College, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Kennesaw State University, and a master's degree in Discrete Mathematics from Georgia State University.

Mr. Hippchen has spent his career with a focus on student success both in the classroom through teaching Mathematics and on campus through supporting student clubs, athletics, and academic bowls, just to name a few. For example, he organized the Math Bowl at Coastal Pines for three years. He also finds time to engage in community outreach. Mr. Hippchen also has a 2009 publication in Mathematics Magazine titled "Closed Knights Tours with Minimal Square Removal for all Rectangular Boards."

Mr. Hippchen shared his thoughts on the role as Associate Dean, “I believe that technical education can have a huge positive impact on individuals and the community. That’s why I’m excited to see so many great things happening at Augusta Tech and am grateful for the opportunity to help bring my experience to the School of Arts and Sciences.”
